Is the 2.5 Xtype motor interchangeable with the 3.0 xtype motor in a 2002 Jaguar?

2002 with a blown 3.0 motor has to be replaced. Can I replace it with a 2.5 motor, or does it have to be the exact same 3.0? How about a 2003 or 2004 similar question?
