how can you jump start the ignition coil on a 2.4 1991 mitsubishi 2wd pickup?

went through high water last week  and been having problems since, it has been hard to shift out,  the starter burnt up in it I replaced the starter and it still want crank , I would like to know if you think it might be the ignition coil and what the best way to see for sure if thats what it is and how to jump start the coil
