timing chain replacement cost? Saturn Ion 2004...

Looking to find out rough cost to replace Timing Chain?.. And valves that bent over from running car after chain skipped link?.. Also the difficulty to do it my self?.. Thanks...

I am not familiar with the process on your model. The chain should cost about $100 but will take about 12-13 shop hours to replace. You should replace the tensioner also when doing this. Replacing the Timing Chain in a vehicle is a very hard process and should only be messed with by someone that knows exactly what they are doing after all the Timing Chain is like a backbone to you vehicle. Messing this up can cause serious damage to your vehicle. For you I would suggest getting the parts yourself online then get quotes to install the parts on your Saturn. Most shops will have around the same hours of labor but will not have the same cost per hour. Remember though that just because the labor per hour is cheaper does not mean they will do a quality job. They are probably less experienced and might be risky to get them to do the job. Good Luck!!!
