how to replace out put shaft seal on 2000 out back

Question

I have the axle assembly removed but the new seal does not fit. I removed the old seal (I destroyed it on the remove). The new seal which I got from Subrau doesn't fix. The Subrau parts person said it is the correct part. So maybe I'm doing something wrong.  This is on the drivers side. The seal was damaged when I dropped the ball joint and the axle assembly fell out pulling the out put shaft with it and of course the clip on the out put shaft damaged the seal. I could use all the help I can get....Thanks.....Larry

hey, just wondering if u got that figured out...? i borrowed my friends legacy and the same thing happened to me in a way. need to change seal and retainer so i can return this car. to broke to buy tech manual right now. any info would be helpful.
